Curriculum Vitae

Research Expertise: Teacher Education, Teacher Preparation, International Education, Video-based Assessment

Dr. Peter Wiens is a graduate of the University of Virginia and has spent the last two years in West Africa where he secured a small grant examining teacher preparation programs in the region. Prior to entering his doctoral program, he spent twelve years teaching social studies in a variety of contexts. Dr. Wien's research skills include training in standardized observation measures of teaching effectiveness. These observational measures help to provide a framework for understanding what kind of teaching can make a difference in student outcomes. He's been trained on the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), which is a general measure of the interactions of teachers and students. Also, he has been trained on a new measure of history teaching, the Protocol for Analyzing the Teaching of History (PATH).
