This professional development session will help educators understand, through policy, the current climate in U.S. schools for LGBTQIA students, and will also review concrete practices that can improve the school climate. Drawing on state and national level research, the session will explore key obstacles to LGBTQIA students’ educational attainment, including health and housing obstacles. Finally, this session will explore the implications of recent court decisions on bullying and bias as well as the implications of these decisions for schools.
